“We were camping for a long Labor day weekend. Because of nearby wild fire we were evacuated a day early. On a positive note the weather was spectacular. We always love Bumping Lake campground ”

About

Bumping Lake Campground sits on the forested shore of a glacially formed lake fed by snowmelt, high in the Cascades east of Mount Rainier National Park. The campground's setting alternates between old-growth conifer stands, wetlands and rugged ridgelines, and the water is popular for boating, water skiing, fishing and swimming; a boat ramp is located in the lower section of the campground. Hikers and equestrians use the nearby American Ridge Trail, which winds some 26 miles through mountain meadows, forests and past high-elevation lakes en route from the Bumping River toward the Pacific Crest Trail, and the broader Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest offers opportunities for mountain biking, hunting, wildlife viewing and winter sports such as skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Wildlife commonly seen around the lake includes deer, porcupine, native fish and migratory birds, while nearby ecosystems provide habitat for threatened or endangered species Northern Bald Eagle, Northern Spotted Owl, gray wolves and grizzly bears so standard precautions for food storage and animal encounters are recommended. The campground is divided into upper and lower sections and contains 62 sites in all: 61 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and one tent-only site. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a metal campfire ring with grill; vault toilets and drinking water are available but there are no electrical or sewer hookups. Expect limited on-site staffing call (661) 702-1420 for current conditions and manage reservations through Recreation.gov, where the campground's cancellation and no-show policies apply: cancellations up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee; canceling the day before or on arrival incurs a $10 service fee and forfeits the first night's fee (including tax and add-ons), and one-night reservations forfeited on cancellation; no-shows are charged a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night. An extra vehicle fee of $8 applies. For location, the campground is reached from Yakima via Highways 12 and 410 (Chinook Pass Highway) and a short drive on Forest Road 18, and it's roughly 45 miles northwest of Naches positioned for convenient day trips to Mount Rainier National Park or stretches of the Pacific Crest Trail.
