“Very nice campsite with good access to the lake and boat launch. I would camp there again. The only negative would be the access road was really bumpy, so take it real slow.”
“It's beautiful and secluded. I photographed the northern lights here. I really love the addition of the picnic table. It wasn't there last time I camped here and it was helpful. ”

Jackpine Lake Campsites occupy two individual sites on the south and west shores of Jackpine Lake, a 63-acre inland lake in the Hiawatha National Forest accessed by forest roads north of Cooks off County Road 437. There are a total of 2 campsites, and both are configured to accept RVs and tents. Site 1 sits in an open area atop a small hill on the south side of the lake (about 45 ft by 40 ft) and is reached by a short but steep drive; it can accommodate two families with trailers and is posted for up to 16 people. Site 2 is a smaller, wooded spot on the west side (roughly 30 ft by 20 ft), better suited to a single family, carries an 8-person maximum, and trailers are not recommended because of limited turnaround space. Primitive toilets are provided at both campsites, but there is no drinking water on site, so bring your own supply. Roads into the boat access and sites are firm sand with some gravel and can be rough; the unimproved back-in boat access on the lake's south side (on the route to site 1) is intended for small, lightweight craft only, is for day use, and has limited parking. Note that swimming conditions vary by site site 1 offers acceptable swimming but shares the shoreline with the boat access, while swimming at site 2 is not recommended. The lake supports a healthy fishery smallmouth bass and bluegill are common, with some large yellow perch and bullheads and anglers must carry a Michigan fishing license. Beyond fishing and swimming there are nearby opportunities for berry picking, hiking, biking and horse trails within minutes of the campsites, and the broader Hiawatha National Forest offers a range of activities including boating, wildlife viewing, and interpretive programs. Within roughly a mile of the campsites you'll find bait shops, a fishing pier, general and grocery stores, gas, a pay phone, trailheads, and kayak/canoe rentals; a fuller selection of gasoline, groceries, fishing and camping supplies, ice and deli items is available in the Thunder Lake area on County Road 437 about seven miles southeast. For current road and seasonal conditions, fees or reservation questions, or other local information call the ranger districts at (906) 474-6442 or (906) 387-2512 before you go.
