“Was beautiful up there. Really was nice up there. Definitely going to go back.”
“Nice campground. Not much privacy at campsite 10 but that was to be expected. Toilets, dumpster, water pump, firewood on site. ”

Horseshoe Campground sits along Horseshoe Creek at about 10,600 feet in the San Isabel National Forest, set beside a grassy meadow and framed by aspen, Engelmann spruce and gnarly bristlecone pines at the base of Sheep Mountain. The site layout emphasizes privacy: mature trees separate campsites in a compact, primitive loop that still provides basic comforts picnic tables, vault toilets, drinking water and metal campfire rings. The campground has 18 sites total: 12 sites are configured for both RVs (maximum length 25 feet) and tents, and 6 are tent-only. Daytime recreation centers on the Limber Grove Trail, a roughly 3-mile mountainside route that passes thousand-year-old limber pines with enormous twisted trunks, and the shallow reaches of Horseshoe Creek are popular for fishing or simply wading. For experienced mountaineers, Horseshoe is a convenient jumping-off point for high-country hikes toward Mount Sherman, Lincoln, Bross and Democrat the local cluster of "fourteeners" while nearby County Road 18 traces the Horseshoe/Fourmile Historic Auto Tour and the town of Fairplay, with its gold-rush open-air museum, is the closest services hub. Horseshoe is part of the broader Pike and San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands (PSICC), a region with a wide range of recreational opportunities; if you want to confirm which of those apply to a particular visit, call the campground at (661) 702-1420. Access from Fairplay is simple: head south on US-285 for about a mile and then follow County Road 18 roughly six miles to the campground on the left. Reservations and fee rules are handled through Recreation.gov: cancellations made at least two days before arrival incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancellations the day before or on the day of arrival result in a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount); no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and add-ons. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation ends; card refunds are returned to the original payment method, while check or cash payments are issued by Treasury check and may take 6 8 weeks. In the event of an emergency closure, fees will be refunded and the facility or Recreation.gov will attempt to notify you.
