“Wonderful campground. The hosts, Cathy and Joel, are fantastic, pleasant and helpful. They keep the place spotless.”
“We went for much needed sibling camp out. With dogs and we felt very relaxed and respected. We aren’t the quietest group but we try. The hosts were amazing. We had great time10 gallons of huckleberries. ”

Peterson Prairie Campground sits at about 2,800 feet in the Mt. Adams Ranger District of Gifford Pinchot National Forest, surrounded by large pine, spruce and fir that shade its 30 spacious campsites. All sites are designated for both RVs and tents and feature gravel parking spurs, a picnic table and a metal fire ring; potable drinking water and vault toilets are provided but no other hookups are listed. The elevation helps keep temperatures pleasant through the heat of summer, and the site's relatively secluded character and abundant huckleberry patches make it a favorite spot for berry pickers and families looking for a quiet base for day hikes. You'll find the campground roughly west-southwest of Trout Lake, accessed via State Route 141 and Forest Service Road 24, and staffing is limited call the Mt. Adams Ranger District at (509) 427-3677 for current conditions or questions. An extra vehicle fee of $8 applies, so plan vehicle-sharing for larger groups. Outdoor opportunities are immediate and varied: seasonal huckleberry and mushroom harvesting is common within the district, and family-friendly trails such as Natural Bridges and the Ice Cave (which has a stairway down to view ice formations) are a short drive away bring sturdy shoes and check cave safety information at the campground or ranger station. Bird Creek Meadows' wildflower displays and birdwatching and Goose Lake, about 8 miles west, offer additional day-trip possibilities including trout fishing. Reservations are available and subject to standard Recreation.gov rules: individual campsite cancellations made more than two days before arrival incur a $10 cancellation fee; cancellations the day before or on arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount); group facility cancellations less than 14 days out will pay a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night; no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends, and emergency closures will be fully refunded.
