“While was during the shutdown, the pit toilets were in need of servicing. Also the campground itself requires a fee, so it seems the campers in the campground are subsidizing the pit toilets for those campers using the free BLM land.. ”
“Great little campground with fantastic views. Sites have fire pits and picnic tables, there are a few pit toilets nearby and, it's about 10 minutes to the needles entrance and you can fill up on water in the park. Also lots of dispersed camping spots around.”

Hamburger Rock Campground sits at the base of a red sandstone monolith in the Indian Creek area of Bears Ears National Monument, a landscape defined by Wingate Sandstone cliffs, mesas like Lavender and Bridger Jack, and the distinctive Six Shooter Peaks. The site is a compact, first-come, first-served facility with 10 campsites; each site provides a tent/trailer space, a picnic table, a fire ring, and access to a vault toilet, and is configured to accommodate up to 10 people and two vehicles. There is no drinking water or other services at the campground, and the immediate shade comes mainly from the rock itself with a few small junipers scattered among the sites. You reach the campground from the Needles Highway/Utah State Route 211 corridor by turning onto Lockhart Basin Road and following a short, maintained gravel spur to the east side of the road. The campground is a practical base for climbing, photography, and exploring cultural sites in Indian Creek or for visiting the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, which lies only a few miles away; Newspaper Rock is the closest major cultural attraction farther down the route. The broader Indian Creek area offers world-class rock climbing on sheer sandstone walls, cultural-resource viewing, OHV touring on designated routes, and general opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, and auto touring. Camping here is primitive: payment is made at a self-register kiosk on arrival (cash, check, or Scan & Pay via the Recreation.gov mobile app have the app installed before you arrive), there are no reservations or refunds, and facility-specific questions can be answered by calling (435) 587-1500.
