“It was a great site with hiking not to fare away. In the evening got to see some of the local wild life pass through. ”
“wish their was more communication that this was a lone site! felt slightly unsafe without any other campers / campsites also at the head of the atv trail. the dust & the noise were truly awful. didn’t spend the night but drove out to the kings bottom site & stayed there. ”

The Hunter Canyon Group Site is a single group campsite set up to accommodate both RVs and tents that sits just off Kane Creek Road about 8 miles from Moab, putting town services, outfitters and museums roughly a 20-minute drive away. The campsite sits at the mouth of Hunter Canyon, with the Hunter Canyon Trail running right alongside the site: an easy, two-mile one-way out-and-back that follows a small spring-fed creek under towering sandstone walls and through unusually lush riparian vegetation for the area. The dirt and gravel roads nearby are a draw for four-wheel-drive routes and viewpoints over the Colorado River and Hurrah Pass, and climbers will find popular routes within easy reach. Expect OHV traffic and associated noise on Kane Creek Road; also note the approach into the campground drops down a tight, steep switchback on a gravel/dirt road and is not recommended for vehicles over 22' or for rigs towing long trailers. The site is most comfortable in spring and fall summer heat and sparse shade make daytime temperatures challenging. Facilities are basic and geared toward self-sufficient groups: the single group site includes a fire ring with grate, picnic tables and a vault toilet, but there is no potable water, no dump station and no electric hookups, so plan to bring all water and manage waste accordingly. The site frequently hosts motorcycle and ATV groups because of the nearby riding routes. Reservations are required for the group site (maximum 20 people) and the fee is $100; because there is only one campsite you'll want to book early. For changes or cancellations contact the BLM Moab Field Office at 435-259-2100 Recreation.gov allows some changes through your account but a $10 fee applies if you move dates entirely outside your original reservation, while extensions/shortenings that include original dates carry no change fee. Cancellations processed through Recreation.gov incur a $10 service fee; late cancellations (less than 14 days before arrival) incur that $10 fee plus forfeiture of the first night's fee, and no-shows are assessed a $20 Recreation.gov service fee plus forfeit the first night. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov account within seven days of departure; standard reservation and service fees are non-refundable, and interagency pass discounts do not apply to group site bookings.
