“Wen love Bull Bend. The site is perfect for us. Long driveway pull through. Lots of space in the campsite, and beautiful river views. ”
“great unique campground; However no sign on hwy at turn-off.”
“We went later in the season. The toilet was super clean. The only downside was per forest service we weren’t allowed fires, but everyone there was having fires. It was a little concerning since the fire danger was still high and your stuck on this tiny peninsula. ”

Bull Bend Campground sits on a small peninsula of the Deschutes River just below the Wickiup Reservoir dam, offering riverfront camping and direct access to bank fishing and quiet paddling. The site is compact there are 12 campsites in total, and each site is configured to accept both RVs and tents, so trailers and small motorhomes are welcome. Sites come with a picnic table and a metal fire pit; there are no electric or water hookups and the campground does not have running water, so plan to bring your own drinking water and a means to cook. Vault toilets are available, but there are no showers or dump stations on-site. Motorized boating is not permitted in this stretch of river, so fishing is best from the shore or from non-motorized boats and kayaks. Beyond the immediate river setting, Bull Bend is a practical jumping-off point for exploring the broader Deschutes National Forest and Newberry National Volcanic Monument. The campground sits off Highway 97 south of Bend near Wickiup Junction and provides relatively easy access to the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway and the Lava Lands Visitor Center (about 25 miles away) as well as Newberry Caldera and its Paulina and East Lakes (around 30 miles). The surrounding forest supports a wide range of recreation hiking, biking, OHV routes, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, winter sports and interpretive programs so you can combine a quiet stretch of river fishing with day trips to lava flows, scenic overlooks, and high mountain lakes. Practical note on reservations: "Once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation." Check current seasonal openings, road conditions, and rules on Recreation.gov before you go.
