Hoover Campground sits along the western shore of Detroit Lake at about 1,600 feet, under a canopy of Douglas firs, maple and big ferns that give many sites a tucked-away feel. The site layout accommodates both tents and RVs there are 36 campsites in total (35 standard sites and one group site) and each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring. An interpretive footpath and a short Hoover Nature Trail offer easy walks inside the campground, and an accessible viewing and fishing platform puts shoreline access within reach for more visitors. For longer hikes, Stahlman Point Trail is nearby and rewards effort with wide views back across the lake. Wildlife viewing, swimming, and shoreline picnicking are all straightforward from the day-use area, which provides roughly 1,000 feet of waterfront. Recreation on Detroit Lake is strongly water-oriented: the campground has a convenient boat ramp and a dock for launching, loading and unloading (note: no mooring allowed), making it practical to bring a boat for sailing, water-skiing or fishing; anglers commonly catch catfish, rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. The campground offers flush toilets; the group site has a vault toilet; roads into the loop are compacted rock and dirt, and firewood is available for purchase on-site. Twenty-one of the standard sites and the group site can be reserved in advance, while remaining sites are typically managed on a first-come, first-served basis check the Forest Service or recreation reservation website for up-to-date fees, seasons and exact reservation windows. Hoover lies about three miles east of the town of Detroit off Highway 22 on Blowout Road/Forest Service Road 10, making it an easy stop for travelers exploring the North Santiam corridor of the Willamette National Forest.
