“Awesome campground, great views of the lake, and a fantastic forest, which is not talked about enough in my opinion. Best camp host I've run across for a very long time. ”
“Great Campground. Great camphost. Very clean. Spots are close together and not very level. Not as close to the water as I was hoping view wise but I would go back. AT&T excellent coverage. TMOBILE very spotty. ”

Perched at about 1,604 feet on the south shore of Detroit Lake, Southshore Campground sits a little west and south of Piety Knob Island and is threaded with groves of Douglas fir that break up open lakeside views. The site layout totals 30 campsites: 23 are configured for both RVs and tents, while seven are tent-only, and the campground offers a mix of wooded and more open sites that tend to feel quiet except on the busiest summer weekends. A day-use stretch of roughly 1,000 feet of shoreline is part of the facility, and the adjacent dock is intended for launching, loading and unloading only mooring is not allowed. Access to the area is most easily made from the small town of Detroit via Highway 22 and Blowout Road (Forest Service Road 10), with the campground located a short drive down the forest road on the lake's south side. Recreation at Southshore spills directly onto the water: a boat ramp and dock next to the campground make boating, jet-skiing, swimming and angling convenient, and anglers commonly pursue rainbow trout, kokanee salmon and catfish in Detroit Lake's 3,500 acres. Osprey are frequently seen hovering or nesting in the trees around the campsites, offering reliable wildlife viewing right from camp. Onsite amenities are basic but functional vault toilets and drinking water are provided, and coin-operated showers are available about a mile away at Cove Creek. Beyond the immediate shoreline, the Willamette National Forest supports a wide range of outdoor pursuits, from hiking to mountain biking, OHV routes, horse camping and winter sports, and nearby trailheads across the lake lead to features like Dome Rock and Needle Rock while the Cascading Rivers Bikeway and the town of Detroit provide additional recreational options. For fees, reservation policies and seasonal closures, check the Forest Service or recreation.gov before you go.
