“When we got there, the dock had been removed due to low water. Heavy moss conditions. It would have been helpful if that information was on web site. The camp host, Todd was amazing! He went above &beyond to help us overcome conditions. ”
“We had a very enjoyable two nights stay our spot was right on the lake and it was a nice shady campground!”
“Nice campground, clean and well maintained. Great lake access. Very little separation between camp sites and feels like an RV park.”

Jo Bonner Campground sits at the northeastern end of Canyon Ferry Reservoir, about 30 miles east of Helena, between the Big Belt and Elkhorn mountain ranges. The campground is small 17 total campsites and each site serves both tents and RVs, with a picnic table and a fire ring provided at every space. From the loop you can easily reach the water: a gravel boat launch with a courtesy dock lies just outside the campground, and three marinas around the reservoir (Goose Bay, Kim's, and Yacht Basin) offer additional boat services, docks and supplies. The reservoir itself is a large, active landscape roughly 35,200 surface acres and 76 miles of shoreline where anglers chase rainbow trout, perch, ling and walleye, paddlers explore quiet backwater bays, and summer water-sports users and winter ice anglers all find room. Wildlife viewing is a draw here too: a downstream wildlife management area hosts colonies of terns and pelicans, and the surrounding uplands support pronghorn, mule and white-tailed deer as well as grassland birds such as chestnut-collared longspurs and long-billed curlews. Practical details at Jo Bonner are straightforward and focused on basic comfort rather than hookups: during the recreation season the site offers potable water, two vault toilets, a campground host, and a trash dumpster; there's a seasonal visitor center and a variety of day-use and launch facilities managed by the Bureau of Reclamation elsewhere around the reservoir. The campground has year-round access, but fees are charged only during peak season (May 6 through Sept 10), so outside those dates you can use the site without a fee; for up-to-date conditions, reservation rules (if any), and facility-specific information call the campground number at (406) 475-3920 or consult the Bureau of Reclamation's Canyon Ferry information before you go.
