Riverside Campground sits on the shore of Hungry Horse Reservoir, a 27,750-acre impoundment framed by high Rocky Mountain peaks and created by one of the country's tallest dams (the structure ranks as the 10th highest dam in the United States). The site is less than 30 miles from the Continental Divide and about 31 miles southwest of the West Glacier entrance to Glacier National Park, accessed by heading south from Martin City on the East Side Reservoir Road (paved for the first few miles, then gravel for the remainder). There are three reservable campsites in total two double-occupancy sites and one single-occupancy site and all three accept both tents and RVs. Roads, parking spurs, and spurs into sites are gravel; each site has a picnic table, a campfire ring with a grill, and accessible vault toilets. There is no garbage pickup or piped water at Riverside; two hand pumps for drinking water are on site, and potable water can be found about 1 mile south at Murray Bay Campground. An on-site host is based at Murray Bay and can assist visitors with questions about facilities and the surrounding area. The stay limit at Riverside is 16 consecutive nights. Recreation centers on the reservoir and the surrounding Flathead National Forest: a concrete boat ramp inside the campground makes launching straightforward for fishing and boating on Hungry Horse Reservoir, while swimming is a common activity from shore; anglers can expect species such as cutthroat trout. Beyond the immediate shoreline you'll find a wide range of forest activities hiking, wildlife viewing, hunting, horseback riding, mountain biking and more consistent with Flathead National Forest offerings. All three Riverside sites are reservable by phone at 1-877-444-6777; the site fee covers one motorized vehicle and a second vehicle is charged $5.00 per day upon arrival. Cancellation requests made within the four-day reservation window will be considered for a refund of camping fees only and automatically forfeit the first night's fee. Day-of-arrival cancellations must be reported by calling Cheryl at 406-752-PWAI (7924) or 406-404-4164 so the information reaches the campground host; no-shows are not eligible for refunds.
