“Great campground, especially for atv riders. You can access trails from camp. Electricity available at some sites, but no wastewater dump, unfortunately. No camp host, but campers have been well-behaved in my experience. ”
“Even tho the gov’t was shut down, somehow all the bathrooms were supplied and clean and we wanted for nothing! Thank you to whoever went above and beyond to make our groups experience wonderful! ”

Sutton Bluff Recreation Area sits along the West Fork of the Black River amid stands of shortleaf pine and mixed shrubs, with many sites positioned close enough to the water to hear the slow current and access a natural gravel beach. The river here is calm good for wading and shoreline relaxing rather than floating and anglers can expect bass and bluegill. Outdoor opportunities concentrate on trail use: a 20-mile designated off-road vehicle (ORV) trail starts from the campground (ORV permits are required), and a trailhead for the Karkaghne section of the Ozark Trail is less than a mile away for backpackers, hikers and mountain bikers. Birdlife is abundant in the open-lawn and lightly shaded sites, and cool breezes off the river make summer evenings pleasant. The campground has 34 total campsites: 33 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, plus one tent-only site; three specific sites (Numbers 29, 32 and 33) have short parking spurs that cannot accommodate large RVs or trailers. Facilities include tables and campfire rings with grills at each site, electric hookups for RVs, accessible vault and flush toilets, hot showers and drinking water. For groups there is a large site that holds up to 32 guests and a picnic pavilion with about 10 tables and grills for gatherings. Sutton Bluff is reached from Centerville by following Highway 21 and a series of county roads to the river; the small community of Centerville is the nearest town and provides the closest services. Note that ORV use requires permits, and details about fees, reservations and seasonal availability aren't provided here check the Mark Twain National Forest website or contact the forest office before you go.
