Bonanza CCC Group Campground sits about nine miles up the Yankee Fork drainage at roughly 6,500 feet elevation, some 23 miles from Stanley, Idaho, accessed via Yankee Fork Road off Highway 75 near the Sunbeam Dam overlook. Though the developed site contains 13 gravel spurs each with a parking pad, picnic table and campfire ring and a central group area with two large fire rings, a grey-water sink and several picnic tables, it is registered as a single reservable group campsite (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1; SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). Spurs average 45 50 feet deep and five are wide enough for an extra one to two vehicles; the facility can handle roughly 40 vehicles without trailers or about 20 vehicles with trailers, so groups that bring trailers should plan accordingly. Vault toilets, potable water and trash collection are provided year-round when open, but there is no electricity or hookup service; roads and spurs are gravel and lodgepole pines dot the campground, offering patchy shade while summer wildflowers fill the valley. The campground is open for group reservations from Memorial Day through Labor Day and is expressly for groups individual spurs cannot be reserved separately so plan and book as a single party. The Yankee Fork is a short walk away and produces decent fishing for rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and whitefish, while trailheads for the West Fork of Yankee Fork, Crimson Lake and Lightning Creek are nearby for day hikes or horseback outings. History is a big part of the setting: Bonanza ghost town lies within a mile and the town of Custer is a couple miles farther, where the Yankee Fork Gold Dredge looms over the stream and offers interpretive tours on a seasonal schedule (Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day); the Sunbeam Dam site is about nine miles downstream and has interpretive information at the river's edge. Fees are tiered by group size $35 per night for 1 25 people, $50 for 26 50, and $100 for groups over 50 so verify your headcount when you reserve. Beyond camping and fishing, the broader Salmon-Challis National Forest supports auto touring, biking, horseback riding, OHV use, hunting, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs and winter sports, making Bonanza a practical base for mixed recreational plans.
