“I felt very safe as a solo traveler, especially with some internet access. My stay was quiet. Facilities were clean and in working order. Staff was helpful in approaching me and checking me in.”
“Great campsite. No water, no electricity very primitive camping site. Campfires should NOT be allowed. ”

Prosser Family Campground sits along the western shore of Prosser Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest, about 10 minutes north of Truckee on Highway 89. The site is shaded by Jeffrey pine and fir with sagebrush on the forest floor, and several campsites look through the trees toward the water and surrounding peaks. There are 29 total campsites; every site is configured to serve both RVs and tents and includes a large parking spur, a picnic table, and a campfire ring with a grill. Basic amenities on site are vault toilets and a drinking-water source; there are no other utilities listed at the campground. The reservoir itself is an immediate draw for canoeing, paddling, swimming and fishing; power boats are permitted under a strict 10-mph speed limit, and a public boat ramp is located about a half mile away at the Prosser Ranch Group Campground. Beyond the water, the campground is a convenient base for many regional pursuits. A network of hiking, biking, horseback and off-highway vehicle trails radiates from the area, including access to the Prosser Pits OHV area and nearby interpretive routes such as the Donner Camp and Boca Townsite trails. Truckee's services stores, gas, restaurants and historic sites are a short drive south, while larger reservoirs and recreation areas (Boca Reservoir and Lake Tahoe) are roughly 30 minutes away for expanded boating, swimming and scenic driving options. The facility is operated and maintained by Tahoe National Forest; for up-to-date information on fees, reservations, seasonal openings, and any special access rules, check the Tahoe National Forest pages or recreation.gov before you go.
