Boca Spring Campground sits a short drive off Interstate 80 near the Hirschdale exit, about 20 minutes east of Truckee and roughly one mile east of Boca Reservoir. The campground occupies a heavily forested stand of tall pine and firs, with Boca Spring feeding a grassy meadow that edges the campsites and gives the area a quieter, more open feel than the surrounding timber. Water recreation is the big draw here: Boca Reservoir (with a boat ramp on the reservoir's southwest end) lies a mile west and is used for boating, water-skiing, swimming and fishing, while the nearby Little Truckee River is known locally for catch-and-release fly-fishing. Trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle use radiate from the surrounding national forest, and the short Boca Townsite Interpretive Trail lets visitors explore the area's railroad and mining past; for more extensive day trips Stampede Reservoir is nine miles north and Lake Tahoe is about 35 minutes away. The campground provides 17 total campsites, and all 17 sites are designated to accommodate both RVs and tents; there is also one group site that can hold up to 25 people and eight vehicles. Each single-family site and the group area include a picnic table, campfire ring and grill; vault toilets and a source of drinking water are on-site. The facility is operated and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest, so for current fees, reservation rules, seasonal openings and any road-condition or access advisories you should contact the forest office or check their website before you go. Because the listing specifies the amenities above but does not list utility hookups, plan to arrive self-contained with water and power needs in mind and be prepared for typical mountain-season variations in road and weather conditions.
