What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (55 reviews, ★ 3.0). Not written or edited by us.

“We had a bit of difficulty finding our spot which was #30 but it was actually A30! There were people from Colorado that had their dogs running loose barking at others. ”

Casey B 2 · Sep 2025 · Recreation.gov

“Great area for us, we were able to ride our motorcycle out of here to many cool locations. Pronghorn greeted us every morning and evening, a few Mule deer.”

Gary B 4 · Aug 2025 · Recreation.gov

“John Smith the new host helped me out considerably as he saved me a trip to Green River for a quart of oil I needed for my generator. The restrooms are spotless, and showers are kept very clean. ”

About

Buckboard Crossing sits at about 6,100 feet on the northwest shore of Flaming Gorge Reservoir, in a high-desert landscape of sagebrush with only a few scattered trees shade is limited, so expect warm days and cool nights. There are 58 campsites in total, all suitable for both RVs and tents, divided between Loop A (25 sites) and Loop B (33 sites). Most sites can be reserved; several sites in Loop A have electrical hookups, and Standard Electric sites charge the base rate (displayed below) and a separate fee for electricity. Site amenities are practical and straightforward: most campsites include a shade cabana, a picnic table and a campfire ring, with some sites offering grills or alternate fire rings. The campground provides flush toilets, drinking water, showers (available to non-campers for a small fee), and an on-site dump station. The campground's immediate draw is the reservoir boating, fishing, canoeing, water skiing and swimming are all easy to access thanks to the adjacent boat ramp, marina and fish-cleaning station. Buckboard Marina sells fuel, bait, fishing licenses and groceries, and offers boat rentals and slips, so you can arrive without your own launch gear and still get on the water quickly. Beyond the shoreline, Flaming Gorge Dam and its visitor center are nearby and offer tours and exhibits about the area's history and hydroelectric operations. The broader Ashley National Forest around the campground supports a wide range of outdoor pursuits, including biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, off-highway vehicle routes, interpretive programs, picnicking and overnight stays in fire lookout cabins, making Buckboard Crossing a convenient base for both water-focused days and land-based exploring.
