Nicole T ★ 4 · Oct 2025Very cool campground. Sites didn't feel too close together although it was not full whatsoever. Evidence of animals, including bears was around but did not witness any except deer roaming the campground. Vault toilets surprisingly clean but it could be it was the off season and very cold up there. It is very beautiful up that way although we did have difficulty finding firewood and had to search other empty sites for anything useable.
Guy H ★ 3 · Aug 2025The location of the camp is good but the site was very rocky and difficult to pitch a tent (mine is a 2 people lightweight one). Very exposed and the nearest vault toilets were some of the worse I've seen for ages. The ones by the host were fine. Ok for one night but I would pick a different site on the outer loop with more amenable ground for pitching a tent.

North Fork Campground sits at about 8,600 feet in a dense stand of lodgepole pine and spruce roughly six miles west of Centennial on State Highway 130, reached by a short spur on Sand Lake Road/Forest Road 101. The site is large and RV-friendly: there are exactly 60 campsites divided into two sections, and all 60 sites are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents. Many sites are sited along the banks of the North Fork of the Little Laramie River, and the rush of the river is audible from most campsites. Basic amenities include picnic tables, vault toilets, and trash collection, but there are no electrical, water, or black-water (sewer) hookups. A handpump for water may be available seasonally typically July through September but that availability can change with weather, pump or well maintenance, and required water testing, so plan to bring your own water or call ahead. Recreation is immediate and varied: the well-known North Fork Trail #390 is directly accessible from the campground and is used by both hikers and mountain bikers, while anglers can fish for trout in the clear mountain stretches of the Little Laramie. For a more relaxed day, drive a stretch of scenic Highway 130 or stop at the nearby North Fork Overlook for wide views. The campground is a good base for the broader Medicine Bow Routt National Forests and neighboring Thunder Basin National Grassland, which together offer nearly 2.9 million acres of year-round opportunities hiking, biking, horseback riding, OHV use, hunting, fishing and winter sports among them (Thunder Basin, however, has no developed campgrounds and permits dispersed camping). Wildlife in the area includes elk, mule deer, moose, black bear, coyote and bobcat, so store food and scented items securely. Because the elevation is high and weather can be unpredictable including frost, high winds and even summer snow check current fees and reservation policies with the Forest Service before you go and bring clothing and gear for rapidly changing conditions.
