“I have been camping here for 65 years. I like the lake the campground is so nice. And after the improvements it make it a little better. ”

Boulder Lake Campground occupies the southern shore of a 362-acre lake within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and is the forest's largest developed campground. The looped campground contains 99 sites all configured to accommodate both tents and RVs arranged in a stand of young hardwoods so some sites sit right at the water's edge while others back into the trees for a quieter feel. Campsites come with picnic tables and campfire rings with grills; a portion of sites include electric hookups, and the facility supports RV use with an on-site dump station. Accessibility has been addressed throughout the campground: there are numerous accessible single-family sites, ten accessible group sites that can be reserved for groups of roughly 16 to 30 people, accessible vault toilets, showers, and drinking water. Puddles and generally damp spots are common in the lush lakeside setting, so expect muddy approaches after rain. Recreation is centered on the lake power boating, water skiing, swimming and year-round fishing are popular (walleye, northern pike, bass and panfish are commonly pursued), and the boat ramp is plowed in winter to support ice fishing and winter launch access. Nearby streams offer trout fishing while the Wolf River, a short drive away, provides whitewater rafting and canoeing opportunities; the campground's amphitheater occasionally hosts educational programs. Boulder Lake is reachable by following regional routes to Forest Road 2116 from Townsend (the nearest small towns and the city of Langlade lies about 25 miles to the west), and its mix of RV hookups plus dump station make it a practical base for car- or RV-borne visitors. Standard Forest Service camping fees apply; group sites and some sites can be reserved in advance while others remain first-come, first-served, so check the Chequamegon-Nicolet NF recreation pages for current rates, reservation windows and seasonal updates before you go.
