What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (356 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“Decent campground. Enjoyed the stay for a week, but power went out one night, and was still not on 18 hours later, so we left. Campground didnt refund any money for the trouble, day without electricity or early departure.”

Jason J 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“This place exceeded my expectations in both safety and cleanliness. Great place for families and a welcoming environment. I would definitely stay here again after my 8 day stay . I travel solo with my little dog and felt completely comfortable here.”

About

Poole Knobs Campground sits along the shores of J. Percy Priest Lake in the rolling green hills east of Nashville, offering direct access to a large Corps of Engineers recreation area that was developed alongside the dam completed in 1968. The lake covers roughly 14,200 surface acres and more than 40 miles of impounded shoreline, and it shares borders with some 19,087 acres of grasslands and woodlands. Nearby the Cedar Glades Natural Area you can find regional plants like the Tennessee coneflower and a variety of wildlife; the temperate climate extends the season for hiking, horseback riding, biking and wildlife viewing. Because the lake is only about 15 minutes from downtown Nashville, Poole Knobs makes it easy to combine outdoor days on the water with city museums, music venues and restaurants without a long drive. The campground itself contains 75 sites in total: 66 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and nine tent-only sites, plus a larger group campsite that can hold up to about 40 campers for family gatherings or small groups. On-site amenities include drinking water, a dump station, flush toilets and hot showers, and there is a boat ramp for launching into the lake making Poole Knobs a practical base for boating, water sports and the excellent fishing here (largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, striped and white bass, Cherokee bass, catfish, bluegill and bream are all present). The broader J. Percy Priest Lake area adds swimming sites, visitor center and environmental-education opportunities, playgrounds and picnic facilities, and trail systems for hiking and horseback riding. If you make a reservation, note there is a $10 transaction fee for cancelled reservations; otherwise, the campground's combination of lakeside access, basic utilities and proximity to Nashville gives you a wide range of recreation without sacrificing everyday comforts.
