US Forest Service, Enoree Ranger District
Open in Google Maps ↗
Rocky Branch Seasonal Campground sits in the southeastern corner of the Enoree Ranger District in Fairfield County, on rolling Piedmont terrain at roughly 500 feet elevation. The site is set in a dense pine forest, with Rocky Branch creek running just south of the loop and Rocky Creek to the north; both creeks join and flow into the Broad River a couple miles to the west. Expect long, hot summers (upper 80s to high 90s) and mild winters (early winter ranges from the low 40s to upper 60s). The campground is used primarily as a seasonal hunt camp and opens mid-September through early January for big-game deer season and again in April for spring turkey season; this is where most visitors come to pursue whitetail deer and wild turkey or simply to watch wildlife and soak in the Piedmont forest scenery. From I-26 take Highway 34 east toward Winnsboro (about 16 miles from Exit 74) and follow Forest Service Road 412 a short distance to the campground entrance. The loop is primitive and compact: there are 10 campsites in a single graveled loop, and all 10 sites are designated to accommodate both RVs and tents, although many sites will only fit smaller trailers or a single vehicle with one camper. Each site offers a shady grassy pad and a rock fire ring; picnic tables, electrical hookups, and Wi-Fi are not provided, cell service is sporadic, and golf carts are not permitted. Occupancy rules allow a minimum of one person and a maximum of eight people per site; vehicle/camper limits vary by site but generally range from one up to two vehicles and combinations of two campers, two tents, or one camper plus one tent only if the site will physically accommodate them. During the open hunting seasons campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis (no reservations); the road into the campground is flat and graveled and easily traveled. Beyond Rocky Branch, the broader Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests offer additional recreation such as hiking, fishing, horseback riding, OHV trails, biking, boating, picnicking and wildlife viewing for campers who want to explore farther afield.
