“Hidden gem, spacious sites, beautiful creek, lots of trees, pit toilets not good, but well maintained. Amazing host with her lovely dogs. Nice walking trails, close to town and no cellphone coverage. ”

Camp Creek Campground sits on a quiet bench about 2,200 feet above sea level, directly above a lively forest stream that feeds into the larger river systems sourced from Mt. Hood's glaciers. The site is shaded by mature Douglas fir and cedar trees draped in moss; visitors will also notice stone fireplaces and other features dating to the Civilian Conservation Corps construction in 1936. There are 24 campsites in total: 15 sites accommodate both RVs and tents, and 9 are tent-only, and each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. The loop is relatively rustic parking surfaces are dirt and gravel but the campground provides accessible vault toilets and drinking water; a dump station is available nearby for a fee. From Portland, the campground is reached by heading east on Highway 26 for roughly 32 miles; Camp Creek lies on the south side of the highway about 3 miles past the small service center at Rhododendron. For up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal access, check the Forest Service or Recreation.gov before you go. Outdoor options are immediate and varied: the family-friendly Still Creek Trail is about 1.6 miles and winds through lush vegetation, while the Pioneer Bridle Trail opens roughly 10 miles of route for hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders; note that bicycles are prohibited inside designated wilderness sections along some riverside routes such as stretches of the Zigzag corridor. Anglers commonly pursue trout and whitefish in the creek and nearby river catch-and-release is typical and wading in the cool mountain water is popular on warm days. Beyond the campground the broader Mt. Hood National Forest supports a wide range of activities, including biking, boating, climbing, overnight stays in historic fire lookouts or cabins, interpretive programs, picnicking, wildlife viewing and winter sports; use trailhead signs and current Forest Service maps to plan routes and confirm which activities are allowed where.
