Contorta Flat Campground sits on the far side of Crescent Lake at the top of Willamette Pass, reached after a few miles on Forest Road 60 and a short stretch of gravel expect a quieter, slightly off-the-beaten-path feel rather than a roadside campground. There are 18 sites in total: 14 are set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and four are tent-only, with many sites located right on the water's edge. Sites are generally large and well suited to trailers and big rigs, though they sit relatively close to one another rather than being private, and the lakeshore and sandy beaches are the immediate backdrop. Basic conveniences are nearby rather than within the loop: Crescent Lake Resort, a short drive away, has a general store, lodging and equipment rentals if you need supplies or boat gear. The lake itself is the focal point for activities boating, fishing and swimming are all readily accessible from camp while the Summit Lake Trail offers hikers and mountain bikers a route with clear views across Crescent Lake to Diamond Peak; in winter the whole area transforms for skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling, with Crescent Lake Snowpark serving as a winter base and the Summit Lake Trail open to snowmobiles. Wildlife sightings commonly include deer, native fish and a variety of migratory birds, and the campground places you within reach of the broader Deschutes National Forest network thousands of miles of trails, wilderness areas and the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway plus regional attractions such as the Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Practical notes: sites must be reserved in advance where required, and once your reservation start date has begun neither Recreation.gov nor the campground manager can modify your booking, so plan arrival dates accordingly.
