Badin Lake Group Camp sits in the Uwharrie National Forest beside the western shore of the 5,000-acre Badin Lake, where pines and mixed hardwoods create a shaded setting for group gatherings. The campground is organized as a single loop with three group sites; each site is configured to hold both RVs and tents and can accommodate up to 50 people, so the loop can host as many as 150 campers total. Water recreation is a primary draw here: gentle lake waters are suitable for swimming, boating and fishing for bass, bream, crappie and catfish, and King's Mountain Point about a mile from the group camp offers four accessible fishing piers, miles of shoreline and a designated swimming spot; a public boat ramp lies roughly two miles away. On land, the broader Badin Lake Recreation Area provides roughly 40 miles of non-motorized trails for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking plus about 17 miles of motorized trails for off-highway vehicle use, and the forestlands are open to seasonal big- and small-game hunting. For family day trips, a nearby theme park with a petting zoo, nature center and mini golf is within an hour's drive. The group camp's amenities are straightforward and geared to self-sufficient groups: each site has picnic tables, grills and tent pads, and the loop is served by flush toilets, vault toilets, showers and potable drinking water. There are no electrical hookups and no dump station, so RVs must be self-contained. The site is open year-round; expect winter daytime highs from the low 30s to upper 50s, summer highs in the upper 80s to 90s with high humidity, and pleasant spring and fall conditions in the 60s and 70s. Access to Badin Lake Group Camp is from Troy follow State Highway 109 north and then local county roads toward the Badin Lake Recreation Area and groups should check current fees, reservation rules and any access notices with the U.S. Forest Service before traveling.
