“Nice area away from other parts of the campground.”
“Our group was mostly from the Wild Divide Chapter of Wild Montana in Lincoln for the 50th Anniversary of the Scapegoat Wilderness area. It worked quite well. There was room enough for additional campers from Wild Montana. Area and restrooms clean. Great spot.”
“We enjoyed a family reunion, the site was well kept and provided enough room for all family members who attended. ”

Set on the banks of the Blackfoot River at about 4,800 feet, Aspen Grove Group Use Area sits beneath a mixed canopy of cottonwood, aspen, juniper, lodgepole pine and Douglas fir, where the river's fast, cold water and deep pools draw anglers chasing cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout. The site feels like a secluded slice of mountain riverfront: the group area is set apart from the rest of the campground and offers easy walking access to the water. From here you're also within reach of longer trail networks Indian Meadows and Alice Creek trailheads (roughly 9 and 15 miles away, respectively) provide routes into the Scapegoat Wilderness and toward Lewis and Clark Pass, and several access points to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail are scattered through the Lincoln Valley. Wildlife is abundant across the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest; visitors should be aware that species from mule deer and elk to black bear, mountain lion and wolverine inhabit the surrounding ridges, meadows and forests. Practical details matter at this group site: total campsites: 1 the Aspen Grove group area is a single designated site that accepts both RVs and tents and it's sized to host up to 40 people and as many as 15 vehicles, including trailers up to 20 feet; there's room for roughly 10 15 four-person tents. The area is equipped for groups with picnic tables, campfire rings, drinking water spigots and vault toilets, and the group space has its own parking and private facilities within the campground. Access is via State Route 200 east of Lincoln, Montana, with a short gravel spur to the campground; once inside the facility, follow signs to the group-use area at the eastern edge. Because fees, reservation rules and seasonal openings are managed by the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest and can change, prospective campers should check the forest's website or contact the local ranger district for current reservation requirements, permits and any seasonal access notes before heading out. Activities you can pursue from this base include camping, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, OHV use on designated routes, picnicking and winter sports, depending on conditions.
