Viola Campground sits along the Kings River arm of Table Rock Lake in the rolling hollows of the Missouri Ozarks, where oak and hickory woodlands meet long stretches of clear blue water. The campground provides 51 campsites in total 50 sites configured for both RVs and tents and one tent-only site with electric hookups, hot showers, a drinking water supply and an on-site dump station to keep longer stays comfortable. You'll find gate attendants on duty to answer questions and collect fees, but they cannot make reservations by phone; to reserve a site call the central reservation line at (877) 444-6777. Viola is reached from Shell Knob by heading south on Highway 39 for roughly seven miles and then turning west toward the recreation area, and it's about a 36-mile drive from Branson if you need groceries, fuel or additional services before you arrive. What sets Viola apart is immediate access to water-based recreation: Kings River Marina, located inside the Viola Recreation Area, stocks fuel, equipment rentals and boat storage and even sells fishing licenses so anglers can launch quickly into some of the lake's noted bass waters. The marina sits beside a playground, a concrete boat ramp and a designated swimming area, and the lake's clear coves also attract scuba divers and water-sports enthusiasts. On land, marked trails, picnic spots and wildlife-viewing opportunities keep non-boaters busy, and the nearby Dewey Short Visitors Center at Table Rock Dam offers educational films and exhibits plus a courtesy dock for visitors arriving by boat. Table Rock Lake itself was formed by the dam and now offers roughly 779 miles of shoreline and a wide range of seasonal services (including several commercial boat cruises and full-service marinas) that make Viola a convenient base for boating, fishing, hiking, environmental education and family recreation.
