“Nice quiet location but still close enough to amenities. ”
“Love the park and space between camp sites”
“Great site, right by the river with a path nearby down to the water. Well maintained with enough grass for our tent to set up comfortably. There are showers in the bathrooms.”

Riverside Campground sits on the wooded banks of the Smoky Hill River just downstream from Kanopolis Lake, about 30 miles southwest of Salina. The site feels like a riverside stop framed by sandstone bluffs, rolling hills and broad prairie a setting where white-tailed deer and flocks of waterfowl are as likely to be seen as Great Blue Herons, quail, wild turkeys, rabbits and squirrels. TOTAL CAMPSITES: 24 24 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites and the campground mixes convenience with simplicity: 16 sites offer electric and water hookups while 8 remain primitive for more self-contained camping. The river provides direct access for anglers and paddlers, and a short drive up to Kanopolis Lake widens the playbook to boating, water sports and lake fishing; onshore you'll find opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, auto touring, OHV riding and wildlife viewing as well as several historic and cultural sites in the area. Facilities at Riverside are straightforward and family-friendly: flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a playground and a dump station make multi-night stays practical, and the campground's small size keeps a relaxed, low-traffic feel. During peak season (May 15 Sep 15) all camping payments are handled through Recreation 1 Stop: if you have a reservation, go directly to your reserved site and have your reservation number ready as proof of payment; if you arrive without a reservation choose a site but do not set up until you pay at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777, record the reservation number, then return to set up. For history buffs, the Fort Harker Museum in Kanopolis and the Rogers Art Gallery and Museum in Ellsworth interpret settlement of the American West, while Kanopolis State Park Kansas' first state park provides additional trails, equestrian areas and picnic and boating facilities within easy reach.
