About

Wilborn Creek Group Camp sits on the north shore of Lake Shelbyville, roughly nine miles west of Sullivan and reached by county roads off State Route 121. The campground is managed as a single group campsite (total campsites: 1) that contains ten paved full hookup pads each site provides 50-amp electrical service plus water and sewer so it can accommodate RVs and tent campers together (site type: both RV sites & tent sites). The group area also includes several picnic tables and grills for tent users, and there's one dual, unisex shower building with flush toilets. A boat ramp in the Wilborn Creek Recreation Area is close by, with a courtesy dock and a fish-cleaning station about a mile from the group camp; Sullivan Beach is a short drive away for swimmer access. Boaters enjoy year-round access to Lake Shelbyville even at high lake elevations, and the shorelines near the camp are good for paddling, shoreline fishing and easy walking. The wider Lake Shelbyville area supplies the rest of the outdoor program: anglers will find catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass and bluegill in the lake, and for non-boaters several farmed ponds around the lake offer more fishing options. The landscape around Wilborn Creek is heavily forested with oak and hickory, with prairie flowers in spring and summer and a vivid palette of reds, oranges and yellows in fall; look for songbirds, shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors and mammals like white-tailed deer, cottontails, squirrels, muskrat and mink. Nearby attractions include Wolf Creek State Park, Woods Lake Waterfowl Refuge and the Okaw Bluff Wetlands Complex, and Eagle Creek Resort on the lake provides private lodging and an 18-hole golf course. Because the site is run as a single group camp, plan ahead contact park staff or check the Lake Shelbyville website for current fees, reservation procedures, seasonal availability and any access advisories (especially if you're coordinating boats or hunting trips in adjacent areas).
