Third Creek Group Site sits about 12 miles northeast of Malad along the Weston Highway near Upper Deep Creek Reservoir, occupying a flat bench in Weston Canyon at roughly 5,000 feet. The site is a single, large group camp that can hold up to 125 people and is listed as TOTAL CAMPSITES: 1 with a SITE TYPE BREAKDOWN: - 1 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites. Pines and scattered hardwoods fringe the open camping area, and the campground receives snow through the winter. Weston Highway to the reservoir is paved, and the final one-mile approach on Forest Road 231 is a good gravel road, with easy access for RVs and trailers. Facilities at the site include a large covered picnic shelter, multiple tables and grills, single vault toilets and water availability on site all arranged to support a single-group gathering rather than multiple individual campsites. Recreation centers on the adjacent Third Creek Trailhead, which has hitching racks for horses and provides access to the Oxford Peak trail system; the trails welcome hikers, mountain bikers, motorcyclists and off-road vehicle users. A short drive brings you to Deep Creek Reservoir for trout fishing, boating and swimming, and the wider Caribou-Targhee National Forest supports activities ranging from horseback riding and OHV use to wildlife viewing, hunting and winter sports. Because this is a single group site that can host large parties, check with the Caribou-Targhee National Forest office for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal availability before you go; the forest office can also confirm whether on-site water is potable and advise on winter access if snow is present.
