Clearwater Lake Recreation Area sits on the southeastern edge of the Ocala National Forest just outside Paisley, about six miles east of the Highway 19/42 junction. The campground's 38 sites are set under a mix of pines and palms and many back directly onto the breezy shore of Clearwater Lake; every site is configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, with level parking pads and open space for pitching a tent. There are two loops with dish-washing stations, flush toilets and hot showers, but no electrical or sewer hookups, so plan on dry-camping essentials if you arrive in an RV. A small sandy beach and a day-use picnic area provide easy lake access for swimmers and sunbathers, and the town of Paisley about a mile away has basic supplies, a post office and a library with Internet access if you need to restock or check email. The area offers water- and trail-based recreation right from the campground: canoe rentals are available on-site and a 7-mile canoe trail runs nearby, while anglers can try for largemouth bass, brim or catfish from shore or boat. Hikers can follow the 1.3-mile Clearwater Lake Loop nature trail or pick up a segment of the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail; mountain bikers will appreciate the 22-mile Paisley Woods Bicycle Trail, and the broader Ocala National Forest provides extensive off-road trail systems and hunting opportunities a short drive away. Wildlife is abundant expect to see turtles, deer, raccoons, many birds and even black bear; this is also alligator country, so store food securely and use caution around water. For reservations and facility-specific details call (352) 669-0078; you may cancel a reservation online or through the call center but a $10 service fee is withheld from refunds, cancellations may be considered late depending on timing, and refunds are not issued for inclement weather for camping, gear rentals, or day-use fees (see Recreation.gov for full reservation policies).
