“This is a great, private campsite and a great home base for discovering the Maroon Bells area! ”
“Clean and close to maroon bells, bathroom. No privacy or cover. Very close to the road and sharp steep turn into the driveway. ”

Silver Bell Campground sits at about 8,460 feet on the banks of Maroon Creek just outside Aspen, surrounded by stands of aspen, spruce and fir that give way higher up to alpine meadows and the glaciated ridgelines of the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. The setting is intimate 14 sites in total and feels like a small forest clearing rather than a large developed loop. Two of those sites are laid out to accommodate both RVs and tents, while the remaining 12 are tent sites (including some walk-in, tent-only spots). Sites come with picnic tables, campfire rings, bear-proof food storage lockers and vault toilets, but there is no drinking water or electrical service on site, so plan to bring your own water and power solutions. Weather at this elevation can swing quickly: expect warm summer afternoons, sharply cooler nights, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the occasional summer snowfall, so pack layers and storm protection. Silver Bell is a convenient base for hikers, backpackers, horseback riders and anglers who want direct access to the Maroon Bells area. From here you can reach the Maroon Creek Trail for easy, relatively flat day hikes and horseback outings with scenic picnicking spots, or drive a short distance to access long backcountry routes starting from the Deadly Bells Trailhead at Maroon Lake the West Maroon Trail climbs above 10,000 feet through boulder fields, stream crossings and alpine lakes (check wilderness camping regulations before heading out). The campground's reservation rules are important to note: several sites (numbers 2 4 and 8 14) are held strictly on a first-come, first-served basis for stays up to five days and are not available for advance booking on Recreation.gov; visit the Maroon Bells Welcome Station on Maroon Creek Road during staffed hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) the day you arrive to confirm availability. Silver Bell often fills before noon in peak summer and fall, and the nearby town of Aspen offers additional services and recreation from downhill skiing and fly fishing to dining and shopping if you need supplies or a break from the backcountry.
