Meadows Group Campground sits at about 7,400 feet in the Front Range, roughly 45 miles south of Denver near the small mountain community of Buffalo Creek. The site is convenient to multiple trailheads several are within a half-mile so mountain bikers, hikers and horseback riders can access the Buffalo Creek bike area and the Lost Creek Wilderness via the Colorado Trail without a long approach. Buffalo Creek itself is a local trout stream popular for brook trout fishing, and nearby destinations such as Wellington Lake and Little Scraggy Peak give campers options for short hikes or a day trip. The campground contains 2 group campsites in total; each site accommodates up to 150 people and is configured for both RVs and tents, with accessible picnic tables and vault toilets on site. There is no potable water at the campground, so plan to bring your own; firewood can be purchased at Buffalo Campground about a half mile east on Forest Road 550. Because Meadows is designed for groups, most campers reserve one of the two group sites in advance through Recreation.gov and should be familiar with the reservation and refund rules: cancellations made fewer than 14 days before arrival incur a $10 service fee and forfeit the first night's use fee, no-shows are charged a $20 service fee and lose the first night's rate (taxes and add-ons still apply), and refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after the reservation end date. Refunds return to the original payment method; cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check and may take 6 8 weeks. In the rare event of an emergency closure, all fees will be refunded.
