“Nice campground but close enough to I-70 to hear the traffic. Easy access to bike trail that runs along i-70. Vault toilets, nice. ”
“Beautiful aspens and very clean bathrooms!”
“Very much appreciated the tent pad with material that was easy to pound in tent stakes. Most FS campgrounds don't have tent pads, or sometimes the tent material is compacted gravel that is not easy to drive in stakes. ”

Gore Creek Campground sits at about 8,700 feet, roughly six miles east of Vail in the heart of the White River National Forest, and feels like a compact mountain basecamp along the creek's edge. The site count is small 25 campsites in total divided into 16 sites that accommodate both tents and smaller RVs and nine tent-only sites; one site (number 18) is a fully accessible tent site. Facilities are practical and straightforward: four handicapped-accessible restrooms, bear-resistant food lockers, and parking spurs up to 35 feet long (RVs longer than that will not fit comfortably here). Most of the vehicle sites are back-in, and several tent sites are walk-in, so expect a mixture of true tent-only feel and drive-up convenience depending on your booking. The campground's location makes it a convenient starting point for a variety of mountain activities. Trails from the campground lead into the Eagles Nest Wilderness (observe wilderness rules: foot and horse travel only), and the paved Vail Pass/Tenmile Canyon recreation trail begins at the west end nearby, popular with cyclists and walkers. Gore Creek runs through the site, and anglers in the area pursue cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout; keep an eye out at dusk for elk and on rocky ridges for bighorn sheep, while black bear and mule deer are common in the surroundings. For services beyond trailheads and fishing, the town of Vail is close by with dining, resort amenities and downhill skiing. Practical note on reservations: once your reservation start date has begun, neither the Recreation.gov Contact Center nor the campground manager will be able to modify your reservation.
