About

San Gorgonio sits high in the San Bernardino National Forest at about 6,600 feet, shaded by a mix of black oak, Jeffrey and Ponderosa pine that give the campsite a mature, wooded feel. The campground is reached from the San Bernardino/Redlands area via State Route 38 and lies roughly 36 miles northeast of the city, with Big Bear Lake and its services about 25 miles farther into the mountains. From the looped roads through the trees you have direct access to the Santa Ana River Trail a multi-use route popular for hiking, biking and horseback riding and the Rio Monte Trail, which leads to the Rio Monte Panorama looking over the Santa Ana River gorge. Anglers visit nearby mountain streams, birders and wildlife watchers will find good habitat in the surrounding forest, and a nearby amphitheater hosts weekend evening interpretive programs in summer; the broader national forest also supports climbing, OHV riding, hunting, swimming and winter-sports opportunities depending on season and access. The campground contains 54 sites that accommodate both tents and RVs, including accessible sites and facilities; sites are arranged in two loops, one with sites closer together and less privacy, the other a little more spread out, and most parking spurs are paved and level. There are no utility hookups at San Gorgonio, but accessible flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water and an on-site campground host are provided, and each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; a dump station and potable water are available at a nearby campground and firewood can be purchased on-site. If you reserve a campsite, note the cancellation policy: cancelling the day before or on your arrival day incurs a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid), and one-night reservations cancelled in advance forfeit the whole amount without an additional service fee; no-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and the forfeiture of the first night's recreation fee.
