Rolf S ★ 5 · Jul 2023Nice site, friendly host. Too bad that it was raining when we stayed there. Made a short hike along Sourdough Creek along with thousands of mosquitoes:-) :-)

This weekend (Fri, Oct 30 – Sun, Nov 1): First come, first served. The listing marks this stay first come, first served — no online reservations.
No maximum RV length is listed for this stay.
Sourdough Creek Campground sits at milepost 147.5 on the Richardson Highway beside the Gulkana River, and though the broader site is known for a cluster of river access points, this particular managed area contains a single campsite that accommodates both RVs and tents. All use at the site is first-come, first-served; there are no staffed rangers on site, and general information is available by calling (907) 822-3217. Basic on-site amenities include restrooms (outhouse style), potable water, picnic tables and fire rings, plus an information/bulletin board and a short interpretive trail that winds along Sourdough Creek. Payment is handled at a kiosk or via the Scan and Pay option: the established fee for drive-in sites in this area is $15 per night (walk-in sites in the region are listed at $6 per night), and there is no separate river use fee. Recreation is centered on the river: the campground's boat launch is the take-out for many float trips on the Gulkana Wild and Scenic River and provides access for both motorized boats and floaters, making it a popular staging point for guided and private fishing trips. Bank fishing, particularly for king salmon, draws the most traffic from roughly Memorial Day through mid-July, when the boat launch and parking can be quite busy with anglers and guides; later in the summer the area typically quiets down. Other activities supported in the immediate area include subsistence access for caribou and moose, berry picking and trapping; the site also provides handicapped-accessible fishing ramps and trails with interpretive panels, a riverside picnic area for day use, and short hiking opportunities within the campground boundaries.
